Laser etching is a pretty versatile production method, even if it does get overshadowed by some of the other processes we offer here at Vector & Raster Laser. Commonly used on thinner surfaces or for more delicate designs that don’t necessarily need the deeper indentations made by laser engraving processes, laser etching is ideal for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications, from producing laser etched labels for fashion and textiles industries, to laser etched corporate stationery that supports your business branding.
There are also some particular types of materials that respond very well to the laser etching process, from fabrics like denim to paper, cardboard, wood, and a variety of metals, including anodised aluminium.
At Vector & Raster Laser, our laser etching specialists often use anodised aluminium to produce custom industrial-grade tags, labels, mimic panels, signage, nameplates, doorplates, and other commercial signage.
Today’s laser etched anodised aluminium project will see us delivering to precision and with volume, but our laser etching specialists were able to uphold their high standards. Stick with us as we put the spotlight on our latest custom laser etched anodised aluminium tag project.
The Benefits of Anodised Aluminium for Custom Tag Production
Most commonly used for producing electronics (i.e. smartphones, cameras, and other technological consumer goods), building materials, and even cookware, anodised aluminium provides a more durable, corrosion-resistant alternative to untreated aluminium. The aluminium oxide layer of anodised aluminium makes this material suitable for installation in a range of different settings, including industrial or laboratory facilities.
The hard-wearing surface of anodised aluminium ultimately provides very robust and highly detailed finished results when laser etched. During the laser etching process, the surface of the material is effectively removed, which is what gives laser etched designs their ‘embossed’ appearance. As laser etching effectively involves ‘burning’ the design directly onto the material surface rather than carving into the surface, laser etching is ideal for thinner materials like thin aluminium sheets and even fabrics like leather and denim.
Anodised aluminium is also available in a wide range of colours, so you can select specific colours to be used with specific products or departments (if you’re using these anodised aluminium tags for internal signage). Untreated aluminium sheets can also be sent out to be anodised in custom colours for large production orders or to match corporate colours, providing superior customisation when compared to other laser marking metal materials.
And speaking of other metals, aluminium is also popular due to its lower cost per unit rate when compared to other alternatives like stainless steel.
So to recap, here are the key benefits of anodised aluminium for custom tag production:
- Hard-wearing and durable
- Superior corrosion resistance
- Allows for high legibility and highly detailed designs
- Available in a range of different colours for easy customisation
- Affordable and readily available
Our Latest Custom Laser Etched Anodised Aluminium Tag Project
With this extra context, you’re officially ready to really appreciate the full genius of today’s anodised aluminium laser etched tag project – so let’s dive in.
This project saw us produce 500 identical pre-cut black anodised aluminium tags for a repeat customer. This round of anodised aluminium tags required a custom laser etched apple design that also needed to be double-sided. These tags were just 1.2mm thick, so handling methods had to be absolutely precise to ensure the double-sided designs were as uniform as possible across the whole batch.
The thinner construction of the anodised aluminium tags responded exceptionally well to our laser etching process. The final designs were crisp and uniform across the batch, and the customers were chuffed themselves, as all 500 tags were returned to them fit for use. Suffice to say, we’re looking forward to the next bulk batch order that these repeat clients will send our way.
